1/22/2024 0 Comments Sq 1 processorBy now, it’s a familiar story for anyone who’s followed Windows on Arm: Arm processors and devices like the Surface Pro X can run 32-bit and 64-bit Arm code natively. Historically, however, processors like the SQ1 have faced another hurdle: compatibility. It’s the foundation for Microsoft’s own SQ2 design. Here’s how Qualcomm sees its Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G chip shaking out in terms of performance. (Officially, Microsoft isn’t saying how fast the SQ2 runs.) Qualcomm Microsoft likely upclocked the SQ2 in the same way that its SQ1 was essentially an upclocked Snapdragon 8cx, with SQ1 speeds reportedly reaching 3GHz. We know that the Microsoft SQ2 is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G, a 7W chip that Qualcomm believes will trounce a 15W 10th-gen Intel Core i5 by 39 percent. Surface Pro X: Better performance, battery life and compatibilityįortunately, Microsoft continues to make progress on both fronts. I personally will be going for the SQ1 8GB/128GB.The new color options on the Surface Pro X include Ice Blue, Poppy Red, and Platinum. It will also get the 64bit emulation support. the same benefits in battery time as the SQ2. Also, the SQ1 will receive a firmware update getting approx. Ever since Microsoft got their new Edge Chromium, I am only using that browser.įrom a lifecycle management perspective, my impression is that the SQ1 will be supported equally in the same way as SQ2 over time. I am not doing any heavy usage on the device and I only tend to have some programs open at the same time. I use home storage and cloud storage for archiving/offloading. I as an example have never ever filled a laptop with 128GB storage. Its quite tempting to look at hardware specs all the time, but you need to put it in comparison to the cost and your usage. I think it all boils down to what you are going to use it for. SQ1 & SQ2, the way Microsoft tends to sell it is in the same way as they have i5 & i7. I am also in the Surface Pro X purchase mode and have done a lot of investigation.
